  2. Zeta Beta Lambda Alumni Chapter Scholarship Application deadline is Saturday, Jan. 10. This scholarship considers academics, extracurricular activities, character, community involvement, and career objectives. The program will only consider applications from high school seniors in Sacramento and surrounding areas graduating in spring 2026. All sections of this application are weighted and scored. All information submitted with your application is subject to verification. Any information found to be false or misleading will nullify your application. Any information that is not included or left blank will severely affect your application and may cause it to be rejected.
  3. Pumpkin Carving Contest 4:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Super Owl Brewing, 1260 Lake Blvd. suite 121, Davis. Bring your A-game and carve the most boo-tiful pumpkin for a chance to win awesome prizes. Grab your carving tools and join us for a gourd-geous evening filled with creativity and Halloween spirit.   4. Wine 101 Class & Tasting at Ever After Wine 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Ever After Wine, 9639 E. Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove. A fun and approachable class led by co-owner Nadia. This class guides you through the basics of wine, wine tasting, and the art of savoring every sip. You will enjoy four curated wines and discuss them over a Q&A. Tickets are $30.

Soul Food Cooking Demonstration/Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal Informational 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at City Church, 3860 Fourth Ave. Hosted by the Sacramento Juneteenth Black Chefs Collaborative, featuring chef Nicole Williams, the “Vegan Soul Lady.” She hosts a healthy soul food cooking demonstration with a Vegan twist and will prepare several dishes for tasting, as well as provide meal planning strategies and nutritional information. Attendees will enjoy samples of the freshly prepared meals. In addition, Ms. Savannah Robinson of Anthem Blue Cross will deliver the Anthem Medi-Cal 101 presentation and services available, transportation, housing deposit assistance, job uniform stipend and more.   6. Boo’d Up ft. Q Parker of 112 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at Harlow’s. A night of R&B music with a performance from Q Parker. Tickets are $26.

  9. Special Story Time: ‘The Porters’ 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 1, at the California State Railroad Museum. A book signing for the new children’s book “The Porters” by Marie A. Young. The event is free with museum admission.
  10. Bob Marley Tribute by Sol Horizon 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Swabbies Restaurant and Bar. Sol Horizon is Sonoma County’s best reggae band and Northern California’s premier Bob Marley tribute band. Tickets are $19.
  11. Braxton Cook 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Harlow’s. Braxton Cook is an Emmy-winning artist and one of this generation’s most exciting emerging voices in the jazz world. In late 2024 he released the EP “My Everything” and performed on NPR’s “Tiny Desk” in early 2025. A new album is coming later this year. Tickets are $26.
  12. Saturday Night Dance Fever ’25: Kool & The Gang, Heatwave & more 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Thunder Valley Casino, Lincoln.
