Kevin McCarty still leads Dr. Flojaune Cofer by about 7,500 votes in the race for Sacramento mayor, according to the latest data released Tuesday. McCarty holds 53% of the vote to Coferโ€™s 47%. A comeback for Cofer is mathematically possible, though challenging.

Paul Mitchell, vice president of Political Data, a bipartisan voter data firm based in California, said Dr. Cofer won Tuesdayโ€™s update by 8 percentage points, but she will have to win the remaining ballots by more than a 10-point margin to get elected.

There remain at least 50,000 votes to count, Mitchell said.

McCarty thanked his supporters and said he was pleased with the results so far in a post Friday on X.

โ€œBut with tens of thousands of ballots left to count, there is still a long way to go,โ€ McCarty wrote.

Coferโ€™s campaign could not be reached for comment.

Black voters make up about 12% of ballots cast in the city election, according to numbers released by Political Data.

If victorious, McCarty would become Sacramentoโ€™s second Black mayor.

City Council District 2

Roger Dickinson is on the brink of  beating realtor Stephen Walton with 61% of the vote to Waltonโ€™s 38%, declaring victory after the county updated the election results Tuesday.

Dickinson, 74, thinks his victory is a product of many people.

โ€œI was fortunate for a coming-together of a cross section of volunteers, neighborhood leaders and community members across the district,โ€ Dickinson told The OBSERVER. He said he looks forward to building a brighter future for District 2 and the city.

In a statement, Walton congratulated Dickinson and expressed his commitment to collaboration. “I congratulate Roger on his victory and look forward to working alongside him to help bring meaningful progress to our district,โ€ he said.

This district, covering North Sacramento and Del Paso Heights, has returned roughly 10,600 ballots, with about 9,600 counted.

Black voters represented about 13% of these returns, according to the same information released by Political Data.

Sacramento Unified School District Trustee Area 3

Jose Navarro holds a lead over RoLanda Wilkins, with 59% of the vote to Wilkinsโ€™ 40%. The numbers remain consistent with earlier reporting, indicating steady support for Navarro.

Sacramento Unified School District Trustee Area 4

April Ybarra leads with 47%, followed by Victoria Vasquez at 27% and Jay Martinez at 25%. The percentages suggest Ybarra is likely to retain her lead.

The latest results offer a clearer picture of Sacramentoโ€™s election landscape, though additional ballots may still impact certain close races.
