Name: STEPHEN WALTON
Candidate for: Sacramento City Council, District 2
Occupation: Realtor
List the top 3 issues you plan to address along with possible solutions.
Restoring key basic city services: One of my top priorities is restoring the basic city services that District 2 has been deprived of for far too long. This includes improving waste management, addressing illegal dumping, maintaining clean streets, and ensuring that public spaces are safe and well-maintained. I will work closely with city agencies to ensure that these essential services are delivered consistently and effectively. District 2 residents deserve the same level of service as the rest of Sacramento, and I will fight to make sure that happens.
Homelessness: Homelessness remains a critical issue in our district, and my five-point plan tackles it head-on. This includes increasing access to mental health and substance abuse services and providing job training opportunities. I believe in solutions that get to the root of the problem, not just temporary fixes. By focusing on long-term rehabilitation and empowerment, we can make meaningful progress in reducing homelessness while keeping our streets safe and clean.
Public safety and clean streets: Safe and clean streets are essential to a vibrant and thriving District 2. In addition to restoring city services, I will work with law enforcement to enhance community policing and build stronger relationships between officers and residents. This also includes combating illegal dumping, improving waste management, and initiating beautification projects to restore pride and cleanliness to our neighborhoods. A cleaner and safer district will benefit residents and attract new businesses to the area.
What differentiates you from your opponent?
What sets me apart is my deep love for District 2 โ this isnโt about politics for me, itโs about my home and our community. My roots here run deep. This is where I grew up, where my family has served for generations, and where Iโm raising my own family. Iโm not a career politician; Iโm an effective leader who will listen, unite, lead, and fight for the people of District 2.
I believe that the strength of our community comes from its diversity. District 2 is made up of many different communities, ethnicities, and neighborhoods, and I know that by bringing people together, we can create real and lasting change. Iโm confident that I can unite these different groups to work toward a common goal โ a brighter future for our district.
My opponent may have experience in politics, but experience does not equal effectiveness. District 2 has been overlooked and neglected under the leadership of career politicians, and itโs time for a new direction. Together, we can reignite hope in District 2. I am more than confident that, with fresh ideas and a commitment to real action, we can build a community that works for everyone.
Why should Blacks vote for you instead of your opponent?
Black voters should pick me because I understand the unique challenges we face, both as a Black man in Sacramento and as someone deeply invested in this community. Iโve lived the struggles of systemic inequality, and Iโve seen firsthand how career politicians fail to deliver for our neighborhoods.
My commitment to restoring basic city services, addressing homelessness, and supporting Black-owned businesses will provide real solutions that benefit everyone, especially those who have been overlooked for too long. Iโm not just here to talk โ Iโm here to make sure District 2 becomes a place where every resident can thrive.
