  1. “Looking Back at Black”: Representations of African American Culture Over Time – Monday, July 1, to Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Central Library lobby. Join as cultural historian Esther Roman shares her collection of African American memorabilia through this exhibit. From life-saving inventions to artisanal dolls to a series of commercial items, Roman’s exhibit seeks to highlight the massive contributions made by African Americans to the nation and world, but also document and address the long legacy of racism in America. Roman will make a presentation on the collection and speak to the stories behind her many pieces at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Central Library in the West Meeting Room. No registration is required and the program is free to attend.
  2. SOJO African Heritage Museum & Culture Co-Op Community Listening Sessions – 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, via Zoom.   3. “This Place Rules” Andrew Callaghan Film Screening and Moderated Q&A – 8-10 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Crest Theatre. For the past four years, Callaghan has been working on a secret documentary and feature film researching the inequalities that Americans face in the modern world. This film is not yet rated, but should be considered R-rated; viewer discretion is advised. Tickets from $37.

Island Girl Art by Rhean Goodgame – 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays, July 3-28, at the Atrium, 1020 Front St. Immerse yourself in “Island Girl Art,” a painting and jewelry exhibition by Rhean Goodgame. Drawing inspiration from the elements of earth, sky, and sea, her debut exhibition presents a captivating journey through vibrant hues, intricate craftsmanship and sustainability. Goodgame’s featured paintings showcase vibrant florals and landscapes, each imbued with a sense of vitality and wonder. Complementing each artwork is a curated selection of handcrafted jewelry, meticulously crafted from upcycled materials or ethically sourced from nature. Born on the Caribbean island of Tobago, Goodgame’s upbringing amidst lush tropical landscapes has nurtured her artistic vision, infusing her work with a profound appreciation for nature’s kaleidoscopic beauty. Free and open to the public.
  5. Black Men: Alive & Well Support Group – 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Soul Space, 520 Ninth St. No. 102. A soul-drenched power support group for Black men. Join them to discuss what being a Black man in America really means. Come and experience the unique therapeutic value of one Black man to another. Free and open to Black men of the community.
  6. Afrodancehall Worldwide – 9:30 p.m.-2 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Liaison Lounge, 2667 Alta Arden Expressway. This event will be nothing short of vibes, culture and nonstop electric dancing. Dress to impress. Tickets are $20.
  7. FREE Yoga + Health + Wellness – 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 5, at 3401 Second Ave. All City Homes hosts a free yoga class led by Terrie Aoun, with a health and nutrition class featuring Ms. Melinda Penny-Washington. Penny-Washington is a holistic wellness transformation coach with a passion for merging evidence-based science with ancient cultural wisdom. Her mission is to reclaim how we view health by integrating nutrition science with indigenous healing practices from around the world. She guides others to rediscover their roots and heal through their unique cultural identities. Melinda emphasizes mindful eating, ancestral wisdom, and the transformative power of food as medicine.   8. Insane Wayne – LIVE COMEDY – 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 5-6, at Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club. Stockton native Insane Wayne is one of the hottest comics in the Western Hemisphere. During his college years he was the king of playing the dozens (capping). His talents have allowed him to travel the country and share the stage with well-known comedians such as D.L. Hughley, Katt Williams, Lunell and Lavell Crawford. Tickets are $25.
  9. California Classic Summer League – 5-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, July 6, 7 and 9, at Golden 1 Center. The Sacramento Kings host the San Antonio Spurs, Charlotte Hornets and the Chinese National Team. The six teams will play games featuring rookies selected from the 2024 NBA draft, second-year players and athletes competing to make NBA and G League rosters. Similar to Summer League matches, modified rules will be in place, including 10-minute quarters. In addition, the three days will include exciting family-friendly entertainment throughout the Downtown Commons. Following the games Saturday, July 6, Chevy Metal takes the stage outside Golden 1 Center. Fans will receive a commemorative poster on Sunday, July 7. Single-day passes start at $29.
  10. V101 Freestyle Throwback Fest ’24: Stevie B, Exposé & more – 7 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at Thunder Valley Casino, 1200 Athens Ave., Lincoln. This music fest will feature performances from Stevie B, Exposé, The Sugarhill Gang, Trinere, The Cover Girls and Rob Base. Tickets from $66.
  11. DCI Capital Classic Drum Corps Show – 5-10 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Hughes Stadium. Sacramento’s premier world-class drum corps show returns for its 11th year. Catch the excitement of music in motion with action-packed shows – truly, performing arts at its best. Experience this stellar event featuring nationally acclaimed drum and bugle corps, guest performers, food trucks and more. It’s your last opportunity to see many of the California corps before they depart for the DCI World Championships in Indianapolis. Tickets from $25.
