- California State Capitol Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony – 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, at the Capitol Rose Garden. This ceremony is meant to showcase the authentic journey from slavery to freedom by paying tribute to the sacrifices and achievements of those who came before us. Free and open to the public.
- SOJO African Heritage Museum & Culture Co-Op Community Listening Sessions – 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, via Zoom. Join a Zoom listening session on promoting systemic change, equity, social justice and community engagement and applying them in real ways. Find the meeting via tinyurl.com/2cb7mw6h. - Youth Healing Circle – 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at 2251 Florin Road No. 156. Hooked on Fishing Not Violence presents a space for youth to talk about their experiences and grow from them. Each week features special guest speakers and more. Free and open to the public.
- Black Men: Alive & Well Support Group – 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Soul Space, 520 Ninth St. No. 102. A soul-drenched power support group for Black men. Join them to discuss what being a Black man in America really means. Come and experience the unique therapeutic value of one Black man to another. Free and open to Black men of the community.
- Kamasi Washington – 8:30-10:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Crest Theatre. Don’t miss the wonderful sounds of American jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington as he performs in Sacramento for one night only. Tickets from $40.
- Dad Night Meet, Greet, & Eat In-Person Class – 7-8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, at the Center for Fathers and Families, 920 Del Paso Blvd. Topics include fathering skills, love languages of children, child development, dealing with emotions and men’s health. There will be plenty of discussion and a potluck. Free and open to the public.
- 2024 Sexual Assault Prevention Conference – 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday-Friday, June 6-7, at Holiday Inn Sacramento Downtown. This two-day, in-person event is a unique opportunity to come together and address the important issue of sexual assault prevention for Tribal communities. They have gathered a diverse group of community leaders, experts, activists and survivors to share knowledge and experiences. As an attendee you will have access to engaging workshops, insightful panel discussions and thought-provoking keynote speeches. Tickets are $100.
- CBCC Business Mixer – 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 7, at Seasons 52, Arden Fair. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet and network with other Black community small business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals. Whether you’re looking to make new connections, learn about local resources or enjoy a fun evening with like-minded individuals, this mixer is the place. There will be food, drinks, music and door prizes. Free and open to the public.
- ‘TOPDOG/UNDERDOG’ – 7 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, June 7-30, at Celebration Arts, 2727 B St. Written by Suzan-Lori Parks and directed by Melinda Wilson Ramey, this darkly comic fable of brotherly love and family identity, tells the story of two brothers, Lincoln and Booth, who are haunted by the past and their obsession with the street con game three-card monte. The brothers come to learn the true nature of their history. The play received a Pulitzer Prize for drama in 2002. Tickets from $15.
- Juneteenth Celebration – 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 7, at North Natomas Regional Park. Come celebrate Juneteenth with the District 1 community. There will be amazing performers, local vendors, speakers and community organizations. Free and open to the public.
- Sacramento Juneteenth Golf Tournament – 8 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Bing Maloney Golf Course. Celebrate this year’s Juneteenth by participating in this year’s newly expanded Juneteenth Golf Tournament. This year’s tournament is an 18-hole affair at the Bing Maloney Golf Course. The Juneteenth Golf tournament serves as a fundraiser for the Juneteenth Scholarship fund. The tournament is a best ball format with prizes for hole in one, longest drive and closest to the pin. Single players are $125 and $475 for a foursome.
- Oak Park Farmers Market – 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays, June 8-Nov. 16, at McClatchy Park. Shop from locally grown produce, flowers and artisanal goods. Kids activities and community resources are also available. SNAP and EBT accepted. Free and open to the public.
- Let’s Read Oak Park – 10-11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Underground Books. Let’s Read Oak Park is presented by St. HOPE for elementary school-aged children to explore books and participate in hands-on activities with an emphasis on cultural themes. Students will engage in interactive book readings and select a free book of their choice to take home and encourage reading together as a family. This month’s theme is “Celebrating Juneteenth.” Free, attendees must register.
- Sharing Hope – Mental Wellness in the Black Community – 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Mack Road Valley Hi Community Center, 7833 Center Parkway. NAMI Sharing Hope is designed to introduce discussions on mental health and wellness to the Black/African communities through a three-part community conversation series grounded in the sharing of sacred stories and guided dialogue on mental wellness and support. There will be a panel of mental health professionals and a moderator. Free and open to the public.
- Youth Entrepreneur Celebration – 12-5 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Food Maxx 3860 Florin Road Sacramento. Join the Florin Road Community Beautification Project for a Youth Entrepreneur Celebration. At this event enjoy youth poetry performances, art, games, live bands, a mural dedication and more. Free and open to the public.
- Art in the Park: 2024 Artist Showcase – Noon-6 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Lincoln Village Park. This event will host artists and vendor booths. Vendor categories include artisans, painters, jewelry makers, massage therapists and local resources. Attendees will have access to family-friendly crafts and activities, Juneteenth live performances by local artists and speakers, food giveaways, lawn games for all ages, live performances by local artists and a paint party with live instruction by Creatively Carrie. Free and open to the public. The painting event is $40.
- Mother Daughter Table Talk – 1-2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum. Celebrate the unique bond between mothers, daughters, aunts, grandmothers and all mother figures. They’ll have engaging conversations, heartwarming stories and valuable insights to share. Don’t miss this chance to strengthen the special relationship between mothers and daughters. - Live Comedy With Lewis Belt – 7 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Punch Line Comedy Club. Belt is an Oakland-born, L.A.-based stand-up comedian, actor and producer who gained massive popularity from his viral character, “Sonniebo,” which has generated tens of millions of views online.
