  1. African American Focused Relapse Prevention Workshops – 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, at Sierra Health Foundation. Join a comprehensive training session on understanding and addressing substance use disorders (SUD) led by the esteemed Roland Williams. Gain valuable insights, strategies and resources to support individuals struggling with SUD. Key topics include an overview of SUD, recognizing signs and symptoms, evidence-based treatment approaches, supporting recovery and harm reduction. Free and open to the public.
  2. SOJO African Heritage Museum & Culture Co-Op Community Listening Sessions – 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, via Zoom.   3. Suds & Solutions: Building An Economy That Works For Everyone – 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Track 7 Brewing, Curtis Park. Solving Sacramento hosts a discussion about We Prosper Together, a new initiative of 150-plus organizations in eight counties surrounding California’s capital that wants to take a more inclusive approach to economic development by creating livable-wage jobs and encouraging diverse investments into the regional economy. Speakers include Dawnté Early, president and CEO of United Way California Capital Region; Pat Fong Kushida, president and CEO of the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce; Evan Schmidt, CEO of Valley Vision; and Gloria Stearns, economic development director for Placer County. Free and open to the public.
  4. TrapxCanvas – 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Our Place Event Space and Kitchen. This isn’t your typical paint-and-sip; get up and get moving with your favorite trap classics and other new music. This is a cultural experience, so don’t worry about painting within the lines. Tickets are $40.
  5. PO-ET Out from every ounce within – 8-10 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Florin Square Plaza. PO-ET Out highlights some of the most thought-provoking open mic artists and features. Indulge in live performances, music, food, drinks and a great vibe in the community. Tickets are $8.
  6. Healthy Body, Mind, and Soul: Caring for Ourselves Together – 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, at City Church of Sacramento. This is a free community event for adults and caregivers to learn about self-care for healthy aging, including research and resources. There will be a dinner sample of healthy foods for the brain and body. Guest speakers will share their knowledge of the latest dementia research, experiences participating in health research and the challenges, supports and lessons of caring for older loved ones. Free and open to the public.
  7. Sip, Swirl & Create Series – Succulent Arranging Workshop – 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, at TAP Wine Lounge. Learn how to arrange succulents like a pro, all while sipping on your favorite wine and nibbling on some scrumptious small bites. Tickets are $95.
  8. Let’s Read Oak Park – 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 11, at Underground Books. Let’s Read Oak Park is presented by St. HOPE for elementary school-age children to explore books and participate in hands-on activities, with an emphasis on cultural themes. Students will engage in interactive book readings and select a free book of their choice to take home and encourage reading together as a family. Attendees must register; space is limited.
  9. ELK GROVE SPRING MUSICFEST – Noon-7 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Laguna Town Hall Amphitheatre, Elk Grove. This exciting outdoor musical concert features international and local artists. The headliner is R&B singer Noel Gourdin. Also appearing will be Bay Area soul artist Agape Soul, local favorite Carla Fleming and the Bay Area’s Cosmic Roots. Tickets from $20.
  10. Public Service Awareness Production: “We Are One, Hear Our Humble Cry” – 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Guild Theater. Always Knocking Inc. in partnership with Arts Business Collaborative have produced an interactive stage play geared toward bringing awareness and providing solutions to the everyday struggles plaguing the community.   11. “For Mamas, By Mamas” Pre-Mother’s Day Celebration – 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at 1841 Del Paso Blvd. Join a day filled with pampering, shopping and connecting with family and other mamas. Treat yourself or the mama in your life to some well-deserved fun and family time. There will be music, art activities for kids, food and drinks, a mini photoshoot for your family, a raffle, vendors and mini massages.
  12. Mother Daughter Table Talk – 1-2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum. Celebrate the unique bond between mothers, daughters, aunts, grandmothers and all mother figures. They’ll have engaging conversations, heartwarming stories and valuable insights to share.   13. A Queen and Her Prince: Mother Son Dance – 4-5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at 1830 Del Paso Blvd. Bring your son out for a night you both won’t forget with music, food, dancing and games. Tickets are $20 per family.
  14. Midtown Mini Midtown Love Fundraiser – 6-9 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Mansion Apartments. This event features a 35-piece art gallery curated by Faith J. McKinnie, specialty cocktails, craft beer, wine, live music, live performers and unique culinary experiences. Tickets are $150.
  15. Mother’s Day Mom/Daughter Afrobeat Dance Class – 6:30-8 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Artful Eye Studios. This class will be taught by Malaika Daniju, who is the director/owner of Mocha Princess Project, an Afro-Caribbean dance program for girls in the Sacramento area. Come have fun and learn the hottest Afrobeat moves. Tickets are $20 for mother/daughter duo and $5 for additional daughters.
  16. Mother’s Day Jazz Brunch – 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at Our Place Event Space and Kitchen. Featuring a performance from international soul singer Joe Leavy. Tickets are $30, food and drink sold separately. The menu features shrimp and grits, oxtails and grits, chicken and waffles, French toast with caramelized bananas and unlimited mimosas.
